I wish I could move but I love my job too much. I'd seriously rather be shunned and keep my job than move away and keep extended family.

they would move to a rural area.
or a state or two away.

Why did Jesus allow people to believe in falsehood? John 6:51, 52, 66
by jwusr inwhy did jesus allow people to believe in falsehood?.
(john 6:51) 51 i am the living bread that came down from heaven; if anyone eats of this bread he will live forever; and, for a fact, the bread that i shall give is my flesh in behalf of the life of the world.. 52 therefore the jews began contending with one another, saying: how can this man give us his flesh to eat?.
66 owing to this many of his disciples went off to the things behind and would no longer walk with him.. .

The point jwusr is trying to make, Stephen, is that Jesus let those not understanding him simply leave, ostensibly to be condemned for eternity, rather than just chasing them down and explaining the misunderstanding.
"You don't get it? Fine. See you in hell."
What's up with that?

Superior Authorities of Romans 13
by Mad Sweeney inromans 13:1,2 (nwt): "let every soul be in subjection to the superior authorities, for there is no authority except by god; the existing authorities stand placed in their relative positions by god.
2 therefore he who opposes the authority has taken a stand against the arrangement of god; those who have taken a stand against it will receive judgment to themselves.".
originally the borg taught that the superior authorities were gentile governments.. later, in 1929, they taught that the superior authorities were jehovah god and his son, jesus christ.. later once again, in 1962, they taught that the superior authorities were the governments of the world.. a change is due.

Yeah, I don't see them flipping again on this subject, but I DO see them throwing their lot in with the other "authorities" "placed in their relative positions by God" at some point. They already do in practice, anyway.

There can be a paradise earth WITHOUT an earthly resurrection
by Mad Sweeney ini get tired of hearing the faulty reasoning that there has to be an earthly resurrection because the bible promises a paradise earth.. those are two completely different things.. the bible only mentions a heavenly resurrection and resurrection is never mentioned in conjunction with paradise earth.
"how then could there be a paradise earth if everyone goes to heaven?
the earth would be empty, dummy!".

<sigh>There has NEVER been a mass resurrection to life on this planet and yet there are nearly 7 BILLION people living here. How can you possibly reason that earth would be empty of humans if not for a resurrection? To be resurrected one MUST DIE first. If your earthly paradise is true, then people would STOP DYING and then be able to fulfill God's purpose to fill the earth and subdue it.
This makes sense both scripturally (if you believe in such things) and logically. The dub rationale that there HAS TO BE an earthly resurrection doesn't hold any logical water.

Why do some of you JW's stay in the organization?
by dgp ini have read that up to 67% of all jw's leave the religion when they come of age.
so i wish i could know why the others stay.
in your opinion, what keeps them in?
-

Those who stay are programmed to stay and haven't broken out of the cult programming. The only reason anyone who had broken out of the cult programming would stay is because of family commitments.

Pimping someone else's website---laws and etiquette ???
by Mad Sweeney inwhat are the rules, laws, and etiquette for advertising someone else's website(s)?.
for example, if making up an anti-borg flyer, is it legal and/or appropriate to put something like: "for more information see jwfacts.com or freeminds" or whatever (i'm just using those as examples, since they came to mind)?
i guess it would probably need a disclaimer saying that the creators of the flyer are in no way affiliated with those sites.. or what about just a plain white business card with one website address on one side and another website address on the other (no other words or decoration)?.

The "cult mind control stuff" was the dealbreaker for me. I had known about some of the doctrinal problems my entire life (which had of course been building up on the "avoid cognitive dissonance" shelf in my mind for decades), but when I found out I have never been free it all came crashing down.
It is one thing to believe and be taught wrong things. It is another thing entirely to be enslaved by a corporation.

So it was a Fred Franz interpretation. Picky, picky.

What is the main issue you have with this religion?
by Quillsky infor me there are many obvious issues, but the big one is......... the big daddy of the universe, the father of all this incredible creation, is not about to annihilate everybody who is not a member of this late 1800's american religion, jehovah's witnesses.. that's it for me.. what is your big issue?.
-
Mad Sweeney
Just one issue? That's hard. There are so many.
I'd have to say the control issue, the stuff that makes them a mind-control cult. Their doctrine would be no more or less flimsy than any other minority religion* if only they weren't hellbent on controlling the Behavior, Information, Thoughts, and Emotions of the members.
(*: Still wrong, but at least not so evil.)
